Brundle fly!

Even though I've had numerous opportunities to do so, I've never seen the movie "The Fly". Nor did I ever see its successor "The Fly II", but after seeing both of them this week I wished I had seen them earlier.

Not that the storyline or the acting were that great, but it would have cleared something up for me a long time ago.

You see, I tend to listen to a lot of different sorts of music, and one of them is hardcore. Back in the days when Thunderdome came out, I was more into the genre, whereas nowadays there are only a few mixes left that I keep listening to.

One of these is the hardcore edition of House Party, on which there is a particular track called "The Fly" by "Two Terrorists".

Most hardcore producers tend to take a sample from a movie, and build a track around that sample. "The Fly" is no different, but I could never make out what the sample was - mostly because I could not fully understand what was being said. The only thing I could make of it, was "learn to fly" or "burn the fly".

Around the same time, there was a track called "The Fly Is Dead", which was a reference to the well-known Bonzai DJ "Fly", so I assumed that it was "burn the fly" and that they were just hopping on the then-popular Fly-bashing train.

However, after seeing the first movie, it finally struck me: it's the sample when the main character, Seth Brundle, realises he's turning into an insect. "(I'm becoming) Brundlefly".

It's not world-shocking news, but it's still some sort of revelation, after all those years :)
