FAB Design presents the Mercedes McLaren SLR "Desire"

posted: April 18, 2009

When it comes to cars, tuning can have a very broad meaning, invoking an even broader range of emotions and reactions among car lovers. On one side you have a group of people who want to improve an existing car by adding on some small modifications, be it interior or exterior. On the other side, you have FAB Design, who've just presented their version of the Mercedes McLaren SLR to the world - the "Desire".

Not the subtlest of cars to begin with, FAB Design took the SLR and remodelled it with a lot of carbon fibre and even more extra power. The Desire now claims to have 750bhp instead of the measly 626bhp of the original SLR, and an increase of torque from 780NM to a massive 1,080NM! FAB have also tweaked the suspension, and placed the car on new bespoke 20 inch alloy wheels. A custom exhaust was also added: each front wheel now has a set of triple pipes exiting behind them.

On to the exterior modifications then, which seems like an endless list. A new front end, new wings, a new bonnet, a massive rear spoiler and a complete diffuser package all make sure the Desire stands out from the crowd with it's aggressive look.

It's also very exclusive, since the production has been limited to just 15 cars. In case you're looking for your wallet, don't bother: they're apparently already sold out.

Normally I don't like this kind of excessive tuning, but there's just something about this car which makes it all ok. The Mercedes McLaren SLR Desire is just so over the top, so aggresive, so Batmobile-like, that you just can't say no. I've seen people compare this car to the Lamborghini Reventon on some forums - I wouldn't go so far as to compare these two cars, but in terms of sheer lunacy, I'd say FAB Design certainly did it the Lamborghini way...
