The real Jealous Guy
One of the wonderful things I like about music, is that you never stop learning, no matter how elaborate your collection is. Just the other day, for instance, I discovered an interesting fact about a song called "Jealous Guy".
While listening to Studio Brussels the other day, I suddenly heard a version of "Jealous Guy" I've never heard before. To be honest, the only version I knew until that moment was the version sung by Brian Ferry of Roxy Music.
Imagine my surprise then when I learned that, not only was this version sung by John Lennon, this version was the one and only original! I never realised the Roxy Music version was a cover!
To be honest I wasn't that surprised to learn the original was written by John Lennon - I've never been much of a Lennon (or Beatles) fan. While I appreciate (and listen to) the Lennon/Beatles songs they normally play on the radio, I've never actually taken the time to discover more of their music.
Wondering what else I didn't yet know about "Jealous Guy", I decided to look up the song on Wikipedia, and boy was I in for another surprise. Apparently, "Jealous Guy" is one of Lennons most covered songs, with at least ninety-two recorded cover versions!
As I said before: you learn something new every day. I think I'm going to have a look at the complete list of songs John Lennon wrote, if there are any more surprises I'll let you know!
